Susana Baca is a celebrated Peruvian singer, songwriter, and cultural ambassador known for her soulful and captivating performances of Afro-Peruvian music. Born in Lima, Peru in 1944, Baca has spent much of her career preserving and promoting Afro-Peruvian music, a genre with roots in Peru's African slave trade. Her music has won multiple awards, including three Latin Grammy Awards, and has been widely acclaimed for its rich blend of African, Spanish, and indigenous Peruvian influences. Baca has also been a prominent voice in Peruvian politics and culture, serving as Peru's Minister of Culture in 2011.
